To appear on Google Maps, for free, you claim your Google Business Profile, fill it in with hours, services, real photos and an exact address, then gather reviews and post regularly. It's the fastest and cheapest way for someone searching for what you offer, in your town, to find you — and it costs nothing.

Why the Business Profile is the first thing, not the site
When someone searches "[what you do] in [your town]", Google first shows the map with a few businesses — not the list of websites. If you're not on the map, you simply don't exist for that customer, however good you are. The profile is free, quick to set up and the first signal your business is real. The site comes right after, to back up what starts on the map — but the profile is the front door.
The steps, briefly
- Claim the profile. Search for your business on Google; if a listing already exists, claim it; if not, create one. Verification (usually via a code) confirms it's yours.
- Fill in EVERYTHING. Hours, the correct category, services, service area, phone, exact address and real photos. A complete profile ranks higher and inspires more trust — a half-empty one is ignored.
- Gather reviews and post. Reviews are an important map-ranking factor, and regular posts show you're active. Ask satisfied customers ethically and reply correctly even to the bad ones.
"I set up the profile, but I still don't appear." Why?
Often the profile is just the beginning. To appear consistently, you need consistency (the same details everywhere), fresh reviews and a site that reinforces the local signal — that's local SEO. Without them, a lone profile loses to those who have it all. A fast site of your own, correctly connected to the profile, is what keeps you on the map.
