„Why don't I see today's clicks?"
It's the first question almost everyone asks when they open Google Search Console and look at a freshly connected site. The short answer, which few people give you straight: Google doesn't work in real time. It's worth understanding why — so you don't make decisions on numbers that haven't settled yet.
How „old" Google's data actually is
The final data — the numbers you can rely on — arrives with a delay of typically 2-3 days. It's not a bug and it's not the connection's fault: that's how the system is built. Google collects, cleans and finalizes the data before showing it to you as definitive figures.
There is „fresh" data too (less than a day old), but at a price: it can change before it's finalized. Today's figure may look different tomorrow. Since April 2025, Google even offers hourly data for the last few days — useful if you're tracking a traffic spike, but still not „live" in the way people imagine.
What this means for you, in practice: don't panic if you don't see the visit from two hours ago. Measure trends over weeks, not impulses over hours. An article published today won't show up tomorrow with 500 impressions — and if someone promises you that, they're selling smoke.
Why you have to „prove" the site is yours
To see your site's numbers in Search Console, Google first asks for proof that the site really is yours. It makes sense: no one should see someone else's traffic data.
That proof goes in a place many owners never touch: the domain's DNS settings, where you bought the domain (your hosting or domain provider). Concretely:
- For a „Domain" property (which covers both the
wwwand non-wwwaddress) — the only method is a DNS record: either a TXT or a CNAME, provided by Google. - For a „URL-prefix" property (a single exact address) you have more options: a file uploaded to the site, a tag in the code, or via Google Analytics / Tag Manager.
A common confusion we want to stop upfront: the „A" record does NOT verify anything. The A record only says where the site is hosted (on which server). For proof of ownership you need TXT or CNAME — not A. If someone tells you to change the A record „so Google sees you", they're pointing you the wrong way.
What Google actually reads
Here's the part that matters for results, not just for numbers. Google (and now AI assistants too) reads the page's content, not its design. Text written clearly, structured, with headings and direct answers, is „machine-readable" — it shows up in search and can be picked up as a source. A beautiful site with thin text or content hidden in images stays invisible to exactly the engines that decide today who gets the client.
That's why „connected to Google" is only the start. What comes next — being read correctly — is the real work.
Our rule
We won't promise you „rank #1" and we won't draw you charts you can't verify yourself. Google isn't real time, verification is done once and done right, and growth is measured in trends, not impulses. That's the difference between a number that reassures you today and one you can rely on a month from now.
