Platform properties in Search Console: the complete guide

Google now shows what people search when they find your Instagram or TikTok. Step-by-step setup, real reports and limits — everything source-verified.

Search your name or your brand on Google. The results are very likely not just your website: they include Reels, TikToks, videos and posts — yours, or, less pleasantly, other people's posts about you. Until July 2026, that entire part of your Google presence was a black box: it happened, but nobody could measure it.

Platform properties is the new Search Console property type that closes the black box: you connect your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X accounts, and Google shows you — in numbers — how that content performs in Search, Discover and News: what people search when they find you, how often you appear, how many click. It is the first property in Search Console history that does not require owning a website.

This guide is source-verified: every claim about the feature comes from Google's official documentation and the Search Central announcement. Where the documentation is silent, we say so — we don't fill gaps with assumptions.

What platform properties are, in short

A platform property is your presence on a supported third-party platform, treated by Search Console as a property in its own right:

AspectWeb property (domain)Platform property
VerificationDNS, HTML file, meta tagAuthorization inside the platform account
Requires a website?YesNo
What it measuresGoogle traffic → your siteGoogle traffic → your profile and posts
ReportsPerformance, indexing, sitemaps, Core Web Vitals etc.Performance, Insights, Achievements

Supported platforms at launch: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X. Each account is added as a separate property.

The verified timeline

  • July 7, 2026 — Google introduces platform properties in Search Console, with gradual rollout.
  • July 29, 2026global availability for all accounts, plus complete official documentation.

The wider context: search no longer happens only on web pages. Platform properties is Google's own confirmation that social presence is part of search — serious enough to get its own measuring instrument.

The reports you get

Performance — the main report, with the same four metrics you know from websites: clicks, impressions, average CTR and average position, broken down by exact queries, individual posts, countries and devices.

Insights — the high-level view: recent traffic trends and top-performing content.

Achievements — milestones reached, built for creators.

Two notes from the official documentation: Discover and News reports appear only if you actually receive traffic from those surfaces, and the default reporting window is 28 days.

What it does NOT do — the honest limits

  • It sees nothing inside the platform. Likes, comments, views and feed reach stay in Meta Business Suite or TikTok Analytics. Search Console shows Google traffic exclusively.
  • It doesn't measure ads. Organic results only.
  • No technical diagnostics. No URL inspection, no index coverage, no sitemaps — you cannot see how many of your posts are indexed. It's a performance lens, not a diagnostic tool.
  • No retroactive data. Collection starts at connection time; first data appears, per Google, "in a few days". What you don't connect today is never measured.
  • Tracking stops at the click. The journey from your profile to your website is only measurable if your bio link carries UTM parameters.
  • The connection is re-checked periodically. If authorization drops (a password change, for instance), reporting pauses until you re-verify. Google publishes no exact interval.

For anyone building automated reporting: at the time of writing, public documentation does not confirm Search Analytics API access or BigQuery export for platform properties. Both exist for web properties — don't extrapolate without checking.

Connecting an account, step by step

  1. Open Search Console, open the property selector → Add property.
  2. Pick the platform from the platform properties section.
  3. Authorize access inside the platform account (for YouTube on the same Google account it's near-instant). The permission granted is read-only.
  4. Once confirmed, the property appears with its reports.
  5. Repeat for every account you manage.

No developer, no DNS, no server files. The only decision that matters is when: because data is not retroactive, every day of delay is a day of data lost for good.

Making your social content indexable

  • The account must be public, Business or Creator type. Check the platform's privacy settings for the "appear in search engines" option — on older accounts it is often off.
  • Give the engine text. Google can't guess what a silent video with no description is about. The first caption line is the most valuable one — put the answer there. Subtitles, on-screen text and image alt text are signals, not decoration.
  • Hashtags are categories, not incantations. Three to five relevant ones beat thirty generic ones.
  • A real location tag ties the post to local searches.

The principle is the same answer-first rule we apply to articles: the first sentence already answers the question — on your site, and now in your captions.

Do / don't:The caption that earns Google traffic

❌ Don't:

✨💫 New post! 🔥

Nothing to index, themeless hashtags, no question, no answer. To Google, this post doesn't exist.

5 simple exercises for a straight back — a beginner's guide

Why it works: the first line is the answer and becomes your Google snippet; the question creates the Q&A format engines extract easily; 100+ words give real context; 3 niche hashtags outwork 30 generic ones; the location ties the post to local searches.

For agencies and teams

Three rules we apply to every property type:

  1. The client is always the owner. Authorization happens on the client's account, never the agency's — exactly like the website or the Google Business Profile.
  2. Team access is granted by name, from the property's user settings, on individual addresses — never a shared login.
  3. On offboarding, the client revokes access and keeps the full history. Nothing to "hand over", nothing held hostage.

GDPR, briefly

Connecting platform properties adds no script and no cookie to your site or accounts — data arrives aggregated from Google's systems, based on read-only authorization. Compliance work stays where it always was: your own measurement with GA4 and marketing pixels. Nothing to configure for consent here.

The action plan, phase by phase

  1. Today: connect every account — collection starts from this moment only.
  2. Days 1-3: accounts public, Business/Creator type, search indexing allowed in settings; bio rewritten around the terms you target; alt text on recent posts.
  3. Days 3-7: first data lands; write down your baseline — clicks, impressions, first queries.
  4. Month 1: hunt the surprise queries and write the next captions on them.
  5. Month 2+: work the 8-20 positions and export data regularly — the healthy web-property habit applies here too.

What to do with the data:The optimization loop

  1. Week 1 — baseline. Write down clicks, impressions and the first queries: the zero point of every future progress conversation.
  2. Month 1 — surprises. The most valuable rows are queries you never targeted. They tell you what the market actually searches for.
  3. Month 2+ — positions 8-20. Posts with high impressions at average position 8-20 are closest to results: a rewritten first caption line can lift them without new content.
  4. Always — compare sources. What share of your discovery comes from Google versus the feed? The answer changes where you invest.

Where it fits:The entity ties it together

Platform properties measures. For Google to also understand that your website, Instagram and YouTube channel are the same brand, declare it with the sameAs property in your site's Organization schema:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "Your company",
  "url": "https://www.your-site.com",
  "sameAs": [
    "https://www.instagram.com/your-account/",
    "https://www.tiktok.com/@your-account",
    "https://www.youtube.com/@your-account"
  ]
}

The profiles link back to the site from their bios, and your entity graph becomes coherent. For local businesses, the same name, address and phone must be identical on the site, the Google Business Profile and the social accounts.

Only then does the loop close: declared entity → indexable content → measurement in platform properties → optimization on real queries.
